ACTIVITY 1

The purpose of being information and media literate is to engage in a digital society; one needs to be able to understand, inquire, create, communicate and think critically. It is important to effectively access, organize, analyze, evaluate, and create messages in a variety of forms. The transformative nature of MIL includes creative works and creating new knowledge; to publish and collaborate responsibly requires ethical, cultural and social understanding.Media literacy is the ability to identify different types of media and understand the messages they’re sending. Kids take in a huge amount of information from a wide array of sources, far beyond the traditional media (TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines) of most parents’ youth. There are text messages, memes, viral videos, social media, video games, advertising, and more. But all media shares one thing someone created it. And it was created for a reason. Understanding that reason is the basis of media literacy. Media literacy is a perspective that we actively use when exposing ourselves to the media in order to interpret the meaning of the messages we encounter. We build our perspective from knowledge structures. To build our knowledge structures we need tools and raw material The tools are our skills. The raw material is information from the media and from the real world. active use means that we are aware of the messages ans are consciously interacting with them.

ACTIVITY 2

PRE-INDUSTRIAL AGE

People discovered fire, developed paper from plants, and forged weapons and tools with stone, bronze, copper and iron.

Acta Diurna were daily Roman official notices, a sort of daily gazette. They were carved on stone or metal and presented in message boards in public places like the Forum of Rome.

A codex, plural codices, is a book constructed of a number of sheets of paper, vellum, papyrus, or similar materials, with hand-written contents.

Insight: There’s no printer at this time so they have to do it handwriting style. Wow, amazing.

Δ

INDUSTRIAL AGE

People used the power of steam, developed machine tools, established iron production, and the manufacturing of various products (including books through the printing press).

A system that converts acoustic vibrations to electrical signals in order to transmit sound, typically voices, over a distance using wire or radio.

Insight: The first communication device in this age. It was first created by Alexander Graham Bell. And it’s pretty amazing that he came up with this.

An electric, electronic, or manual machine with keys for producing printlike characters one at a time on paper inserted around a roller.

Insight: Like the printer but the traditional style. Old yet classy. Without this, there will be no printer of today.

Δ

ELECTRONIC AGE

The age were electronics were common and used. People harnessed the power of transistors.

Mainframe computers (colloquially referred to as “big iron”) are computers used primarily by large organizations for critical applications, bulk data processing, such as census, industry and consumer statistics, enterprise resource planning, and transaction processing.

Insight: They are so damn big. And as I can see, so heavy too. Hard to move from one location to another.

Apple Computer 1, also known later as the Apple I, or Apple-1, is a desktop computer released by the Apple Computer Company (now Apple Inc.) in 1976. It was designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak. Wozniak’s friend Steve Jobs had the idea of selling the computer.

Insight: First personal computers. Weird looking but innovative. From big computers to small ones.

Δ

INFORMATION AGE

People took advantage of using microelectronics. The age of mobile phones/smartphones, social media, and etc.

A dedicated website or other application that enables users to communicate with each other by posting information, comments, messages, images, etc.

Insight: A social media platform where you can communicate with anyone anywhere. Post videos, hashtags, and many more. Cool application.

Wearable technology (also called wearable gadgets) is a category of technology devices that can be worn by a consumer and often include tracking information related to health and fitness. Other wearable tech gadgets include devices that have small motion sensors to take photos and sync with your mobile devices.

Insight: This tech is more awe-inspiring. You can wear technology right on your wrist. That’s pretty neat.
